IMPORTANT: These instructions apply if ONLY the pan left and right is not working.
Step 1: Check the Pan Motor Disc
In most cases, the reason the Pan/Tilt Head is no longer panning is because the set screw in the disc on the bottom of the unit is no longer correctly pressed against the flat side of the panning motor shaft.
First LISTEN to the Pan/Tilt Head while the pan function on the joystick is held left or right:
If you can hear the motor trying to turn:
Test the motor again with the joystick and carefully examine the motor shaft to make sure it is slowly, consistently rotating.
Line up the set screw with the flat side of the pan motor shaft, insert, and tighten the screw. Then test again:
If it is not rotating normally then proceed below.
If the motor is clicking:
If the motor is making a clicking sound when left or right is being held on the joystick then most likely the pan motor is broken and will need to be replaced. STOP HERE. Call Sport Scope Support: 509-204-3270.
If there is no motor sound:
If there is no motor sound when left or right is being held on the joystick then check to make sure that the tilt up and down is working fine. If one direction of the pan is working or if none of the directions are working then you may just need to replace the Four 9V batteries in the Joystick Box:
If still not working after replacing batteries call Sport Scope Support: 509-204-3270.
Step 2: Pan Motor Stripped Screws
If the pan motor is not holding properly inside the main unit it may be because the screws on the flat black surface have been stripped out, damaged, or are missing. When this happens the motor can no longer be securely held in its normal place. And if the screws are stripped then you will not be able to tighten them anymore.
The easiest way to resolve this problem is to remove the stripped screws and use slightly bigger screws to create new threads and hold the motor in place. Try to find screws of a slightly bigger width and the same length.
If this is not possible, call Sport Scope Support: 509-204-3270 for repair options.
