30' Travel Bag Layout

Attaching Hard Case to 30' Travel Bag
Camera Set Up
When you get your camera you may need to change a few settings to make it work properly with your Sport Scope.
Turn Off Power Save
Power Save turns the camera off after 5 minutes.
In the Setup menu:
- Select Setup
- Select Power Save
- Select Off
Set Record Quality to HD
- Select Image Quality/Size
- Select REC Mode
- Select High or Highest Quality
View Record and Battery Info on LCD Monitor (OPTIONAL)
- Select Camera/Mic
- Select Scene Selection
- Select Bottom right arrow
- Leave on last screen. Do NOT exit.
This is an optional step for those interested in displaying Record/Standby & Battery Info on the monitor screen. You are not required to perform this step.
Set Up Instructions - 30' Tower
Unzip the travel bag and unstrap the Sport Scope tower.
(1) Unhook the wheel plate strap from the back end of the travel bag and gently pull the tower from the wheel plate. Pull wheel plate from travel bag and place on the ground. (2) Remove tower from bag.
(1) Insert tower into wheel plate. This will allow you to move the Sport Scope into position. (2) Open each leg and place foot firmly on ground by stepping onto it.
Make sure each axis is level by using the movable compact level. Tighten each leg knob tight as you level the tower. After the legs are locked, check to make sure the tower is still level.
(1) Remove control plate from bag and unscrew the large wing nut on the control mount. (2) Place the control mount as shown and tighten the large wing nut to keep in place. (3) Adjust the control mount up and down to a comfortable height by loosening the knob.
Set Up Instructions - 20' Tower
Remove the 20' tower from its travel bag:
Loosen the top mast knob and start spreading the three legs. It's easiest to anchor one leg against the ground and pull apart:
Expand the legs as wide as possible and then loosen the lower mast knob:
Lower the center mast pole to the ground and then re-tighten the lower knob:
Lastly, tighten the upper mast knob:
Remove Monitor Plate, Monitor Plate Arm, Pan/Tilt Head, Cable bundle and Rain Gear (if needed) from the provided backpack.
(1) Attach plate arm using large wingnut. (2) Insert the monitor plate mounting bolt into one of the holes in the top leg collar as shown (turning left to right as you push down may help with the insertion).
Electronics Instructions
(1) Remove the monitor from the electronics hard case and attach the Velcro strip and sun hood to the monitor. (2) Remove the monitor battery from the electronics hard case.
(1) Slide the battery into the plate on the back of the monitor. (2) Attach the monitor to the swivel mount by sliding the monitor onto the swivel mount’s square knuckle. (3) Tighten the silver knob against the back of the monitor.
(1) Use the swivel mount knobs to adjust the monitor to your desired viewing position.
(1) Remove Joystick from hard case. (2) Remove camera remote from hard case. (3) Attach Joystick to Velcro placement. (4) Slide remote onto remote mount.
(1) Remove the Pan/Tilt Head from the travel bag. (2) Attach Pan/Tilt Head to top pole by inserting it into the top pole. Make sure BOTH O-Rings are inserted.
Remove Sony camera and extended cylinder battery from hard case. (1) First open viewfinder to turn ON camera. (Make sure micro SD memory card has been inserted into side slot). Next turn ON extended battery BEFORE connecting to camera. (2) Then quickly connect USB cord from camera to extended battery.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT turn camera off during half time or you must repeat this process. Turning camera off to save battery life is not necessary.
(1) Slide extended battery into camera handle and use Velcro strap to tighten. (2) Attach the camera to the Pan/Tilt head by tightening the camera screw. Camera should face away from strain relief hook on Pan/Tilt head.
IMPORTANT - Take 30’ cable out of the travel bag pocket. (1) Attach strain relief carabineer to eye-hole hook. (2) The strain relief ensures that there will not be any strain on the cable connections.
(1) Attach multi-port end into the camera’s MULTI port. This controls the zoom and record of the camera. (2) Attach micro HDMI end into camera’s HDMI OUT port, this is for the video feed down to the monitor. (3) Connect the Pan/Tilt head connections until the pin locks into place. This controls the movement of the Pan/Tilt head.
The final result should look like this:
After the camera connections are secure we can now connect to the ground controls. (1) Connect the HDMI cable to the monitor’s HDMI port. (2) Connect the white multi-port end of the cable to the female port of the camera remote.
(1) Connect the joystick to the 30’ cable until the pin locks. All cable connections are done. (2) Hook the bottom part of 30’ cable into bottom carabineer. This will provide some strain relief for the bottom connection when the tower is completely raised.
(1) If needed turn on the monitor and hit the mode/AV button until you see HDMI in the top left corner of the screen. You should now get a picture. (2) Make sure your camera remote is working properly. (3) Make sure the joystick turns on and moves the pan tilt head in each direction.
The camera remote controls (1) record/stop (2) zoom in/out, and (3) camera On/Off.
The joystick (4) moves the camera left, right, up, down, and diagonal in each direction. (5) Is the on/off switch. (6) The speed control knobs calibrate the panning and tilting speed of the camera. The left knob controls the tilt speed and the right controls the panning speed. To the right is faster and to the left is slower for each knob.
Before raising the tower, lock the 30’ cable in the top carabineer. (1) Loosen the knob until the pole is loose and then raise the top pole with both hands. (2) Once you reach your desired height, tighten the knob to lock the pole into place. Repeat with each pole section. Lock the 30’ cable into each carabineer as you raise each pole section.
Rain Gear Instructions
All rain gear is found in the rain gear pocket of travel bag. (1) Attach black lens hood to the front of the camera plate. Make sure lens hood is aligned with the camera lens. Tighten the lens hood with the wing nut. (2) Open the large Velcro opening of the black waterproof cover and slide it over the pan tilt head and camera.
(1) Close Velcro at bottom of bag. (2) Close and tighten the small bungee opening around the lens hood. (3) Close and tighten the large bungee opening at the bottom of the bag. (4) Make sure all the cable connections are covered by the waterproof cover.
(1) Pull clear waterproof cover over the control plate, resting it on top of the monitor. (2) Secure the two Velcro straps under the control plate.
Take Down Instructions
Turn off all electronics: monitor, camera, and joystick.
Unhook the 30’ cable from the camera remote, joystick, and monitor.
(1) Slowly loosen the first knob of the tower while keeping your other hand on the pole as a brake. (2) When the pole is loose enough to slide down, guide the pole all the way down with both hands and then (3) tighten the knob. Repeat with each pole section until the unit is completely lowered down.
IMPORTANT – Always have two hands on the tower while raising or lowering.
Now that the tower is down, unhook the top cable connections and store the 30’ cable and LANC adapter. Take the pan tilt and camera off the tower and store.
Now store the joystick, camera remote, monitor battery, and monitor in the hard case. Store the hard case in the travel bag.
Next, take off the control plate and store in the travel bag.
Once the electronics and control plate are off, unlock each leg and bring up towards the tower. Be sure to lock the legs in the leg holders. IMPORTANT – Lower tower all the way before unlocking the legs.
Finally, (1) make sure each knob is aligned and (2) tightened before you place the tower in the travel bag. Attach the wheel plate and store for next time.
Battery Instructions
The Sport Scope has four battery sources that power the monitor, the camera, and the pan tilt head.
Extended USB Camera Battery: lasts 5-6 hrs.
Internal Camera Battery: lasts 45min-1hr.
Monitor Battery: lasts 4-5 hrs.

To charge extended USB camera battery, (1) attach USB charging cable to a USB wall outlet (you may use Sony USB to AC adapter that came with camera). (2) Attach the micro USB end to your extended USB camera battery. Charge the battery for 4-5 hrs. or until the LED light has been green for at least 2 hrs. |
To charge internal camera battery first make sure camera viewfinder is closed. (3) Attach USB charging cable to a USB wall outlet and connect to USB connector on camera. (4) A yellow LED light will indicate charging. Charge until light turns off. |
To charge monitor battery, (5) attach battery to wall charger and plug the charger into wall outlet. The charger’s light will turn red when charging and back to green when completely charged. This may take up to 8 hours. Do not leave battery on charger for more than 24 hrs. |
Pan Tilt & Joystick Batteries:
There are 4 (9v) batteries inside the joystick battery compartment. These batteries will last 10-12 games and need to be changed at least once a season.
Transferring Video to Computer
The camera records the video to the micro SD memory card. To transfer the video to your computer for viewing or editing, (1) Tap the micro SD card inward into the camera slot so that it releases and then remove. (2) Insert micro SD card into standard SD adapter card.
(3) Insert standard SD card into computer SD slot.
On your computer (Windows), open your file explorer and select the memory card in the side panel.
You will then be in the memory card:
- Open folder PRIVATE
- Open folder AVCHD
- Open folder BDMV
- Open folder STREAM
Find the clips you want and drag them to your desktop or into your editing software.
To fully clear all data on the memory card you may accomplish this when the memory card is in the camera:
Go to Menu > Setup > Format > Select OK to delete all data.
