In some circumstances, connectivity can be improved with a more condensed network.
Instead of the normal 3 stations, you can reduce the system down to two.
One in the pressbox (on the left) and the endzone (bottom right)
Items needed:
New Items not included with your purchase:
- 2 new, longer ethernet cords for the endzone camera and for the iPad antenna. We'd recommend 100ft for the endzone, but a 50ft could work in some situations. For the antenna, you will want a 30-50ft ethernet cord.
- Potentially an iPad adapter to increase network connection even further for the control iPad. See this article for more details.
Pressbox Kit:
1.) Extension Cable/Power Strip 2.) Router Power Supply 3.) EDGE Box Power Cord 4.) Pressbox Router 5.) EDGE Box Ethernet Cable |
6.) EDGE Box 7.) Pressbox iPad Antenna 8.) Pressbox Bridge Antenna 9.) Camcorder + Tripod (not typically provided) 10.) Pressbox Bridge Antenna Tripod (not pictured) |
Sideline Kit:
1.) Sideline Switch 2.) Switch Power Supply 3.) Sideline Bridge Antenna 4.) Network Battery |
5-6.) Sideline iPad Antenna + Separate Booster (if applicable) 7.) Antenna Tripod |
Pictured above is your Sideline Kit. This is the kit that the coaches on the sideline will connect to. Systems purchased in 2025 or later will most likely have the iPad Antenna below in place of 5 and 6 pictured above:
Endzone Camera and Tower:
These set up exactly as normal
How to set it up:
Starting with the pressbox, we do a normal setup with only one exception: The Pressbox Bridge Antenna's orientation. Since we're only using 2 bridges (the pressbox bridge and the sideline bridge) they'll point directly at eachother.
Next, set up the Sideline Kit in the Endzone. At first, you do this mostly as normal, but you'll then use the new longer ethernet cable and move the sideline iPad antenna as close to the sideline as you can, pointing it down the sideline so the Wi-Fi covers your side of the field. The sideline bridge will point up directly at the Pressbox Bridge.
Make sure there are NO obstructions between them (glass, metal, mesh, chain-link fence, etc.) and that there are no other non-Sport Scope antennas or electrical equipment (speakers, antennas, etc.) within a few feet of any of the antennas. It's especially important that the goal post is not in-between the bridges or even within a few feet of the "path" of the antenna.
Lastly, you'll setup the tower and endzone camera as normal. You will use the new, longer ethernet cord to connect your endzone power injector to the sideline switch. Depending on which switch you have, white or black, the port you use will slightly differ. On both, the LOWEST number does not work.
For the White MicroTik brand router, ethernet 1 does not work. 2 and 3 are open and can be used to plug in the Smart Camera. 4 and 5 are reserved for your antennas.
For the Black Ubiquity brand router ethernet 0 does not work. 1 and 2 are open and can be used to plug in the Smart Camera. 3 and 4 are reserved for your antennas and ONLY work in those two ports labeled with black stickers.
