Now that your season is over, here is what we recommend to store your system in the offseason:
- Do NOT store any batteries fully drained. Best practice is to charge all batteries to approximately 50% charge (this does not need to be exact) before storing away for the offseason.
- It's a good idea to check on the batteries every few months but not required.
- Moisture/Humidity and dust don't play nice with electronics. We want to ensure your batteries last both in a the sense of battery life during a game AND the life of the battery over the years.
- Do NOT store batteries or electronics in a non-climate controlled environment such as a shed or field house. Best practice is to keep all electronic equipment indoors in an environment that has heating and air conditioning in order to prevent the equipment from being exposed to extreme cold or heat.
- Antennas, computers (like the edge boxes and smart/wireless camera heads), and cameras also fall into the category. Any electronics should be stored away from extreme temperatures and moisture
- For items that can be stored in a non-climate controlled environment (such as a tripod tower), store in a location that will be kept as dry as possible.
- Avoiding humidity when possible is good practice to avoid the possibility of rust and other moisture related issues.
- Clean all parts (and/or tower) of the system of any dirt or grime.
- Dirt and gunk can build up and cause issues. Leaving it over the offseason can mean that it is much more difficult to clean down the road, so giving it a once over to ensure it's clean now can save you hassle and money in the future!
- Dust is also always the enemy of electronics. Using a gentle source of compressed air from a can is a great way to get rid of excess dust before it settles and becomes more difficult to remove. More dust means a greater chance of things getting too hot and the equipment getting damaged
- Parts that move like hinges and clamps can be lubricated if they are getting stuck/stiff. WD-40 can help keep things from getting locked up.
- Wrap up any cables gently and neatly and store all parts in the correct spots in cases or travel bags.
- Out of all the parts your system requires to function, we tend to see cables getting broken the most. This can often be because the cables weren’t stored properly. Make sure to wrap your cables up nicely and neatly and store in a dry location during the offseason. Do not leave cables plugged in while being stored and make sure there is no pressure on the end connections.
- If a cable is kinked during storage for long periods of time, it will damage it.
- Tighten any loose bolts or screws.
- Many components in our various systems use friction to drive motors or hold antennas in place or even hold the system together. Making sure screws holding motors in place, components together, or used to connect a motor to the base or top of the unit will ensure that nothing bounces or wiggles or slips for your next game or practice.
- Overtightening can also be a problem so make sure you only use hand tools and don't overtighten things.
- Discard anything that is damaged or is not used with the system.
- The last thing you want when setting up your equipment is confusion from extraneous parts, faulty equipment, or only partially working parts. We sometimes see camera operators discover a non-working part, and instead of discarding it they throw it back in the mix of components. Now is a great time to make sure you aren't carrying around non-working components.
- Remove anything that isn’t fully working or that is unrelated to your Sport Scope or EDGE Replay system.
-
Purchase Backup Parts;
- See below for a list of all backup parts that pertain to your equipment. It is a good practice to keep at least one spare of each part to ensure you get your film on game day.
System Specific Recommendations:
Smart Camera Backup Parts
- 30' Ethernet Cable
- 1' HDMI Cable
- 7' Ethernet Cable for Antennas
-
Pressbox HDMI Cable (if applicable)
- *Please confirm your pressbox camera uses Micro HDMI and not Mini HDMI. If your camera does require Mini HDMI, a replacement can be found here
- Pressbox Ethernet Cable for Edge Replay (if applicable)
- Longer Pressbox Ethernet Cable for Antennas (optional)
- Cables for Booster Antenna (Note: you MUST buy two; they only work in pairs)
Power cord pack (IMPORTANT: See image below to carefully determine what type you need):
- If you have Type A then use this cable
- If you have Type B (w/ blue sticker) then use this cable
Upgrades/Modernization:
While it's not a requirement, we would recommend making sure you have the latest updates we have made. Two important things we recommend are making sure you have our latest battery solution, especially if yours are 3-5 years old or having performance issues/not lasting an entire game.
Battery Upgrade:
First take a look at the picture below to see which battery setup you have.
- If you have the 2018/2019 battery where all three cords plug into one battery, you should seriously consider upgrading. That battery is almost certainly going to have a diminished battery life due to it's age and we have found that powering all three devices off a single battery, especially motors and the onboard computer, has an impact on performance.
- If you have the 2020/2021 setup, likely the battery on the front still has decent lifespan and has not yet aged out, but just like the 2018/2019 setup, separating the motors to their own battery has provided a more responsive system with a smaller chance of issues.
- If you have the 2022 battery, you are up to date!
Port Protection Plate (if not already installed):
This protects your computer’s Ethernet port from damage. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND ONLY $30 + SHIPPING!
